Fact and Fiction

Henri Cartier-Bresson once said, “To me, photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms which give that event its proper expression.” I interpret the decisive moment as the instant immediately before the action happens, the point where there is no turning back, and the tension in the photo is palpable; the stopping of time at an extremely unnatural point. One of Bresson’s most famous examples is below¬†.

With these images, I was aiming to explore this tiny fragment of space in the realm of the impending, in hopes of identifying the result this kind of imposed discomfort may or may not have on the viewer.

Composite Images

I have always enjoyed making composite images because I like to question the intended meaning of things that already exist by placing them next to unnatural companions. These three composites are made of my own images, which I printed and physically cut and assembled.
